Role Description:

This position’s primary duty is to serve as the bridge between Study Abroad & Exchange and International Student and Scholar Services efforts. This is a paid student position open to all students who have studied abroad on Chico State programs (CSU IP, Exchange, USAC, AIFS, and/or NSE) or have had a similar educational international experience, and who will continue to be enrolled at Chico State throughout the duration of the role. While the Program Assistant supports inquiries and promotion of all study abroad and exchange programs, the majority of their time is dedicated to CSU IP, Direct Exchange, NSE, and International Exchange Student processes. Under the guidance and support of the SAE Coordinator, this position will closely collaborate with the Lead SAE Advisor for CSU IP, Direct Exchange, and NSE, and the rest of the SAE team. Expected hours vary between 10–20 per week based on availability and workload and will not exceed the 20-hour weekly limit for student employment. The ideal applicant will exhibit flexibility, diplomacy, and the ability to perform well in a fast-paced and occasionally demanding work environment. The position pays $17.90 per hour.

Description of Duties:

  • Supports advising, administrative processes, and promotion for all study abroad and exchange programs, with a primary focus on CSU IP, Direct Exchange, NSE, and International Exchange Students.  

  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of Chico State programs (CSU IP, Direct Exchange, USAC, AIFS, and NSE) to provide accurate information to students and the campus community. 

  • Assists with incoming/outbound students’ inquiries and concerns. 

  • Performs clerical and administrative tasks, including managing the exchange email account in collaboration with SAE professional staff, as well as data entry, scanning, printing, office organization, and administrative tasks as required.  

  • Conducts regular office hours and is available on occasion for evening and weekend events and projects. 

  • Assists in organizing and scheduling (in-person/hybrid and virtual) campus events such as tabling, fairs, and promotional events. 

  • Supports team SAE in planning and leading marketing and outreach efforts (in-person/hybrid and virtual) such as info sessions, classroom presentations, workshops, and campus events, and additional responsibilities as needed.  

  • Supports SAE marketing and outreach with content creation and program updates (TREK, webpage, flyers). 

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled as a Chico State student. 

  • Leads with professionalism, diplomacy, and compassion. 

  • Passion for global, cross-cultural opportunities and is equity minded.  

  • Proficient in basic administrative tasks, Microsoft Office, Zoom, Teams, Canva, and social media management, with strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. 

  • Creativity when designing marketing material, while following branding guidelines. 

  • Strong problem-solving, initiative, attention to detail, and reliability, with excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, and cross-cultural communication skills. 

  • Flexibility and autonomy to work independently, and in collaboration with others. 

  • Ability to maintain composure during busy periods, and a willingness to be flexible in order to accommodate unexpected challenges and changes, during both the planning and execution of daily tasks and events. 

  • Successful applicants are expected to start in early August 2026 to attend a student employee orientation with International Education and Global Engagement and SAE (successful applicants will be provided with updates).

Preferred (not required): 

  • Student with work study. 

  • Currently enrolled Chico State student with at least two semesters remaining, who has participated in a Chico State study abroad or exchange program or gained international or domestic immersive experience through work, volunteer, or internship opportunities.

Additional Information:

All work must be performed within the State of California.

Compliance training completion (approx. 4 hours of work time) is required of this position within the first 30 days of work.

The person holding this position is not considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.
