Role Description:

Job Description/Qualifications: The position of Computer Student Assistant (CSA) provides computer hardware and software support for University Housing staff and maintaining equipment in computer labs in University Housing facilities. This position involves working at both the Service Desk and making rounds to all the various residential buildings and communities as well as coordinating with ITSS regarding computer support for laptops and computers. Requests for IT assistance are typically received in the form of Work Orders, telephone requests, e-mail requests and in-person requests. CSAs are expected to be punctual, possess excellent customer service skills, have a diligent work ethic, follow internal procedures, and work independently when handling support requests. The Service Desk is the first point of contact for most IT related issues in the University Housing department. The CSA position is expected to have excellent communication skills in person, with electronic messaging and over the phone. This includes the ability to convey technical terms and procedures to non-technical staff and students. In addition, CSAs should have a strong working knowledge of Windows systems, and will be required to support customers using standard applications, web services, custom web applications and other campus systems. Other requirements include knowledge of any experience troubleshooting basic networking technology, Microsoft office applications and internet connection issues. This position requires a high level of independence and teamwork. The CSAs are expected to research issues encountered and find solutions using the local knowledge base as well as internet resources and assistance from team members.

Requirements: Undergraduates are required to carry a minimum of 6 units per semester. Graduate students are required to carry a minimum of 4 units per semester unless in adjunct status or on planned educational leave not to exceed one semester and one summer. Normal working hours are between 8 am and 5pm Monday through Friday, although occasional evenings or weekends may be needed. During the summer, hours are 7:00am to 5:30pm Monday -Thursday. The ability to lift and carry 25 lbs. (11.5 kilos) is required. A current California Driver’s License (Class C or better) and clean driving record is required.

Exceptions to the minimum eligibility qualifications may be granted at the sole discretion of the University.
