Description of Duties:
The Liberal Studies Program seeks a dynamic Chico State student for a student assistant position to work in our front office. This is a work study position and the student must receive financial aid and be work study eligible. The position also includes 1 unit each semester.
There are two components to the position: both working the front office and providing general student advising.
Receptionist tasks include: possessing strong communication skills on the phone, email, and in person; having a basic knowledge of university policies and procedures; addressing questions and concerns about academic and administrative requirements and procedures; providing excellent services to students, staff, and the public; screening callers and visitors at the front desk; helping students to schedule appointments with advisors, running errands, typing, filing, and updating social media sites.
Advising tasks include: directing prospective students to the appropriate services on campus (admissions, graduate advising), advising current students on the LBST major requirements; maintaining accurate records of student contact, being able to work with minimal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications: must include hiring criteria such as completed courses, major, etc. (if any)
- Demonstrate consistent work ethic and prompt attendance.
- Demonstrate professionalism in dress appropriate to office environment.
- Taking initiative in all tasks and working collaboratively with program advisors
- Demonstrate strong communication skills with new and continuing students.
- Demonstrate strong listening skills.
- Demonstrate comprehension of university policies and regulations.
- Demonstrate understanding of Liberal Studies major requirements.
- Demonstrate the ability to keep all student information confidential.
Exceptions to the minimum eligibility qualifications may be granted at the sole discretion of the University.

All work must be performed within the State of California.
