Role Description:

The Sociology Department is seeking a conscientious student assistant to work in an office setting and produce high quality work and provide excellent customer service. The student assistant will help the office coordinator, department chair, and faculty with various administrative tasks.

Work/ office experience is strongly preferred; training will be provided.

Responsibilities and Duties:
• Manage the front desk: open the office; greet students, faculty, staff, and visitors; answer calls
• Appropriately route inquiries and follow up with employees and students
• Manage the student assistant email account; write professional emails to faculty and students
• Track and document information, processes, and task completion
• Perform clerical tasks: copying, printing, stocking paper, and electronic records filing
• Use office software such as: Microsoft Excel, Word, Google Forms
• Create flyers, posters, and other kinds of print/ digital media
• Staff and help organize department events
• Maintain a neat and orderly workspace

Required qualifications:
• Due to the conflict of interest, we will only consider students in academic majors/ minors outside of Sociology
• Ability to receive and implement constructive feedback
• Strong organizational and task management skills
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to follow complex directions and keep of track of multi-step projects
• Friendly, courteous, and professional manner
• Track record of taking initiative
• Some experience using Microsoft Office and Google Workspace apps
• Must be in good academic standing
• Must have work-study

Preferred qualifications:
• Office/ administrative experience

This position is for approximately 8-10 hours per week depending on work-study allocation and department budget.

Exceptions to the minimum eligibility qualifications may be granted at the sole discretion of the University.
