Role Description:

The Women’s, Queer, and Trans Program Coordinators are responsible for helping to coordinate activist and educational events and activities and for providing guidance and support to GSEC interns. Events and activities have a focus on creating safe and brave spaces for students who are marginalized by gender and/or sexuality using a feminist intersectional lens.

Description of Duties:

  • Demonstrate commitment to the GSEC mission and ensure that student interns work in support of mission.
  • Plan and coordinate activist events and activities (such as Queer Week, Take Back the Night, Conference, Trans Week of Resilience)
  • Help to create opportunities for GSEC Interns (up to 6 per semester) to participate as members of the GSEC team and gain experience with events, actions and the GSEC as an organization.
  • Collaborate with Director to assist with intern recruitment, selection and training.
  • Respond to, and provide support for interns to respond to, requests for information and resources by referring to campus and community service providers as appropriate.
  • Learn to maintain records of materials, event attendance, letters, articles, donations, and other information related to GSEC generally and program’s events/activities to use for future reference.
  • Collaborate with GSEC team and MCGS Staff/Interns on coordination and operation of the office setting.
  • Act as a representative of the GSEC by attending networking events and promoting activist efforts.
  • Participate and encourage student participation in GSEC events and actions through class talks, presentations, and tabling to promote GSEC.
  • Assist Outreach Coordinator with publicity materials for program’s activities and events including campus announcements, publicity fliers, social media and other materials.
  • Assist with fundraising efforts when necessary and possible.
  • Participate in staff/team meetings, training opportunities and program planning.
  • Engage in learning the student leadership role at GSEC through participation in supervision and feedback with Director and Faculty Advisor.
  • Communicate with Faculty Advisor, GSEC Advisory Board, and other staff and faculty to obtain support and guidance in GSEC work.

Ability to:

  • Learn and utilize feminist, queer, trans and intersectional concepts in the GSEC work.
  • Learn and maintain effective working relationships with the campus community, general public, co-workers, and those contacted during the course of work.
  • Learn to work well under pressure: meeting multiple and sometimes competing deadlines.
  • Demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors.

Education Requirements:
Currently enrolled full time in California State University, Chico. Maintain enrollment in (6) six units as an undergraduate student or (4) four units as a graduate student.

Minimum Qualifications: 

Basic understanding of and/or interest in feminist, LGBTQ+, and social justice issues; demonstrated interest in sexuality and gender diversity-related issues; desire to build communication and leadership skills; basic proficiency with Microsoft Office programs. Priority may be given to people with prior GSEC experience.

Exceptions to the minimum eligibility qualifications may be granted at the sole discretion of the University.
