Athletic Training Student Assistant - Job Description

Position: Athletic Training Student Assistant

Department Description:

This position will assist the Recreational Sports Professional Staff in order to accomplish day to day tasks associated with Intramurals, Special Events, Sport Clubs, and programming within Recreational Sports. The position will be responsible for working a majority of weekdays as well as some weeknights and weekends. The student must have the ability to work autonomously and effectively with college students, faculty, staff, alumni and members of the community.

Duties:

  • Enforce department, University, and CSU Policies
  • Maintain current certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED
  • Assist & oversee Sport Club practices
  • Assist with and actively monitor events and programs 
  • Conduct Safety training for Sport Clubs
  • Understand EAP for different locations
  • Interact with participants/student-athletes with appropriate bedside manner
  • Enter and review injury and incident reports
  • Contribute suggestions that would improve the Sports Club Program
  • Be able to envision foreseeable dangers and hazards that will affect our participant safety
  • Professional and courteous communication with all members of the Recreational Sports Staff and university community
  • Manage and regularly inventory all Sport Club safety kit equipment and supplies in the Athletic Training Office
  • Administer first aid
  • Assist in treatments & care of injured Student Athletes
    • Required to test ability to conduct treatment before being hands on with athletes
  • Taping home and away athletes
  • Dictate medical note transcription
  • Enter sign in sheet information (SOAP Notes)
  • Enter medical/injury information into SportsWare
  • General cleaning and maintenance of the Athletic Training Office
  • Manage and intervene (when necessary) in crisis and emergency situations
  • Promote sportsmanship and foster good character in program participants
  • Ensure programs, clubs (teams) have access to campus facilities 
  • Ensure safety of and interact with participants and spectators 
  • Responsible for event set-up and take-down
  • Responsible for submission of relevant department forms

Additional Information:

All work must be performed within the State of California.

Compliance training completion (approx. 4 hours of work time) is required of this position within the first 30 days of work.

The person holding this position is not considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
