Job Title: Venue Operations Assistant Department: University Public Engagement Reports To: Patron Services Specialist Position Type: Part-Time / Student Employment Pay Rate: $16.90 per hour
Position Summary:
The Student Event Staff position is an entry-level role that provides essential front-line support during campus and public events. Team members play a vital part in creating a safe, organized, and welcoming environment for guests by scanning tickets, monitoring entry points, directing patrons, and providing excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet and interact with guests in a professional and friendly manner.
- Scan and verify event tickets using provided equipment.
- Assist in controlling access to event spaces by monitoring entry and exit points.
- Provide directional assistance and general information to patrons.
- Support basic security procedures by reporting suspicious activity and enforcing event guidelines.
- Always maintain a strong customer service presence.
- Follow all event protocols, safety procedures, and instructions from supervisors.
- Assist with setting up or takedown tasks before and after events, as needed.
- Mandatory working during all Commencement ceremonies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must be a currently enrolled student at California State University, Chico.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm and courteous in a fast-paced or crowded environment.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Prior customer service experience is a plus but not required.
Preferred:
- Interest in public events, performing arts, or athletic events.
- Bilingualism is preferred but not required.
Work Schedule:
- Flexible; primarily evenings and weekends based on event schedule.
Minimum Qualifications: must be a work study recipient.

Additional Information:
All work must be performed within the State of California.
Compliance training completion (approx. 4 hours of work time) is required of this position within the first 30 days of work.
The person holding this position may be considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
