| Role Description: |
Description of Duties: Student Assistants that will learn the many aspects of organic vegetable production from the Unit Supervisor through training and hands on experience in the field at the OVP and its greenhouses. They will assist with soil preparation, seeding, transplanting, pest management, weed management, irrigation, harvest, and marketing of organic vegetables under the supervision of the Unit Supervisor. The OVP is used as educational support for student’s growth, incorporates research into a real-world production activities, and produces crops for income to support the University Farm.
Minimum Qualifications: Candidate needs to be punctual, accountable, and work independently and as well within a team. In addition, the candidate must have a strong work ethic, attention to detail and safety, and understand that many tasks will be conducted in cold, hot, windy, and wet environments. Must be able to learn the many aspects of vegetable production through training and hands on experience. Must be able to work weekday mornings. Must have interest in organic vegetable production.
Exceptions to the minimum eligibility qualifications may be granted at the sole discretion of the University.

Additional Information:
All work must be performed within the State of California.
Compliance training completion (approx. 4 hours of work time) is required of this position within the first 30 days of work.
The person holding this position is not considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
