Role Description: |
The Student Photographer supports the Creative Media and Technology department by capturing high-quality photographic content that showcases the university’s people, events, and environment. Under the direction of the Lead University Photographer, the student photographer will gain hands-on experience in professional photography, digital workflow, and visual storytelling to advance the university’s communication and marketing goals.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Photograph campus events, student life, athletics, performances, and academic activities as assigned.

Assist with studio and on-location shoots, including setup and breakdown of equipment.

Edit, retouch, and prepare images for use in print, digital, and social media platforms according to university brand standards.

Organize and archive photos in the university’s digital asset management system.

Collaborate with staff photographers, videographers, and designers to support creative projects.

Ensure timely delivery of photo assignments and maintain professional communication with clients and stakeholders.

Represent the department in a professional manner while working with faculty, staff, students, and the public.
Qualifications:
-
Currently enrolled Chico State student in good academic standing.

Demonstrated experience in photography (portfolio required).

Knowledge of DSLR or mirrorless cameras, lenses, lighting equipment, and photography techniques.

Proficiency with Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop (or similar editing software).

Strong attention to detail, creativity, and ability to meet deadlines.
-
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed for events.
-
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Additional Information:
All work must be performed within the State of California.
Compliance training completion (approx. 4 hours of work time) is required of this position within the first 30 days of work.
The person holding this position may be considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
