| Role Description: |
The School of the Arts in the College of Humanities and Fine Arts is collecting application materials for a student assistant position in the Scene Shop. Hours are flexible and no experience is required.
Working under the direct supervision of the Scene Shop Supervisor, the primary responsibility of the Scene Shop is to construct, paint, install and remove all theatrical sets for the College of Humanities and Fine Arts. Student Assistants will be required to operate a variety of power tools, hand tools and shop machinery in a safe and supervised environment. Situations may arise where heavy lifting will be required. Working on the floor or from ladders and elevated structures are common occurrences in the shop.
Description of Duties:
Shop Duties 70%
- Fabricate set pieces and other scenic elements based on design specifications
- Read and work with measuring tapes and rulers
- Safely operate hand and power tools and equipment
- Work with a variety of materials including wood, metal, foam and plastic
- Apply paint, textures, and finishes to scenic elements to achieve the desired look
- Maintain a safe and organized work environment
Theatre Duties 15%
- Assist with setup and teardown of sets for productions
- Maintain, clean and organize theatres and rehearsal spaces
Email Duties: 5%
- Email notifications of absences and/or any shift changes
Safety Training 5%
- Complete hands-on tool training and assessment
- Complete ladder training
- Complete assigned online training
Miscellaneous: 5%
- Log work times on written monthly calendar located in the Scene Shop daily
- Log work times into CHRS daily
- Sign monthly timesheet when ready
Hours per week: 6-20 hours

Exceptions to the minimum eligibility qualifications may be granted at the sole discretion of the University.

Additional Information:
All work must be performed within the State of California.
Compliance training completion (approx. 4 hours of work time) is required of this position within the first 30 days of work.
