Role Description:

The Political Science and Criminal Justice Department in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences is collecting application materials for ISA - Research Assistant(s) (Reproductive Justice Community Needs Assessment). Position will engage in research under the supervision of Dr. Amy Magnus. The research assistant(s) will be researching healthcare policy, rural reproductive healthcare accessibility in Northern California and other rural regions of the United States, community-level perceptions of and experiences with rural reproductive healthcare, the criminalization and social control of reproductive health and freedom, and activist efforts pertaining to rural reproductive healthcare. In this context, reproductive healthcare and service includes but is not limited to obstetric services, cancer screenings, sexually transmitted infection screenings, contraceptive care, abortion care, in vitro fertilization (IVF), postpartum support, and gender-affirming care.

Description of Duties: 10 hours per week

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current undergraduate or graduate students in a relevant discipline (e.g. Public Administration, Public Health, Criminal Justice, Political Science, Social Work, Sociology, Anthropology, etc.). Note: Graduate students of all disciplines are welcome to apply as long as their educational/professional interests connect to the work described above in a meaningful way. Please be sure to describe this in your cover letter.
  • Must be available to meet/conduct research throughout the summer
  • Passion for reproductive health, healthcare, policy, and/or activism
  • Strong interest in research / gaining research experience

Preferences: 

  • Multilingual in English and another language, such as Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hmong, Vietnamese, or German
  • Any experience with conducting research, including writing literature reviews, evaluating policy, memo-writing, project design, data collection, data analysis, and/or working with human research participants
  • Student has 1 year or more remaining in their progress toward their degree
