Role Description:
Under the direct supervision of the ESL Support Services Coordinator, tutors provide individual tutoring for non-native speakers of English on campus.
Description of Duties:
Tutors assist students with academic writing, research, citations, grammar, oral presentations, and conversational English. Tutors promote independent learning and act as academic mentors and role models. They must be prepared to complete 10-12 hours of training during each semester of employment and typically work 6 – 8 hours per week.
Minimum Qualifications:
Tutors must maintain good academic standing (2.8 GPA or above) and be able to work independently. They must have successfully completed ENGL 371 (“Principles of English”) and/or ENGL 375 (“English Grammar”) or an equivalent course at another institution. Preference will be given to students working on a certificate in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and those who speak – or have studied – a language other than English.
