| Role Description: |
***The animal room student assistant position equips current Science majors with hands-on experience working with rodents. Part-time student employment estimated up to 10 hours per week.
NEEDS weekend availability. MUST be a current Science major. ***
Assist with additional coverage of the animal room. The animal rooms must be attended to daily, which can require employees to have holiday and weekend work availability.
Approximately 10 hours a week, including frequent weekend work. Close to daily shifts.
Assist with animal care and coverage of the animal room rat and mouse colonies. Follow routine schedules. Monitor and maintain records. Feed, water, and change bedding. Report problems with operation or maintenance to the supervisor. Regular cleaning of the animal quarters. Adheres to established Animal Room protocols as advised. Follows established work hours including starting time, and lunch and rest breaks.
Qualifications:
·Must be a current science major
·Is detail oriented, able to monitor and record information as needed for accurate record keeping
·Is productive with routine tasks under minimal supervision
·Keeps commitments, reliable attendance, appropriate planning and giving advanced notice for all absences
·Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. of animal meal, bedding, supplies, etc.
·Will be required to complete compliance training and IACUC training for this position
Exceptions to the minimum eligibility qualifications may be granted at the sole discretion of the University.
