Edit The central mission of each center is to provide a welcoming and supportive space for programming on a broad range of social justice issues, where students can learn about their identity, academic and professional opportunities, and trends affecting specific BIPOC communities. Students will be chosen as staff based on their proven leadership experience, the potential to contribute to the mission and development of the individual centers, and their understanding of best practices in the retention and graduation of BIPOC students.
Description of Duties:
Serve as a trusted senior leader within El Centro, including acting as a point of contact and assuming lead responsibility for center operations during professional staff absences.
Partner with the Professional Staff Coordinator to co-plan and implement El Centro's programming calendar for the full academic year, including large-scale cultural events, signature programs, and community-wide initiatives.
Take the lead in designing, coordinating, and executing high-visibility and complex programming, including multi-department collaborations, community partnerships, and events that serve a broad campus audience.
Support the facilitation and ongoing implementation of the El Centro Leadership Development Program (ELDP), including logistics, participant engagement, and program continuity.
Mentor and provide day-to-day guidance to Cultural Programmers, helping them build their skills in event planning, communication, and community engagement.
Demonstrate working knowledge of campus processes, procedures, policies, and key offices in order to navigate resources and serve as an informed resource for both students and fellow student staff.
Assist in coordinating departmental diversity and inclusion projects and initiatives, including data collection, analysis, report writing, and presentation of results to stakeholders.
Represent El Centro to the campus community — students, staff, faculty, and leadership — and local community organizations through meetings, events, conferences, and written communications; cultivate reciprocal partnering relationships.
Attend all El Centro trainings, staff meetings, events, and relevant campus committees. Please note that some programs will be held on weekends or after 5 PM throughout the year.
Maintain a semester grade point average of 3.0 or above.
Minimum Qualifications:
A minimum grade point average of 3.0 for graduate students. *Optional: If your grade point average is below the requested number, please provide a letter sharing anything you would like the selection committee to consider.
Demonstrate previous leadership experience and/or involvement in diversity programming.
Effective oral and written communication skills are highly desirable.
Ability to effectively work in a team/group environment.
Desire personal growth and possess the openness to be challenged in your journey in leadership.
